disc problems can be effectively treated without
surgery.
Once the pain has been reduced, it is necessary to
strengthen the disc and help it heal so the injury does
not reoccur. The discs have cells in them that can
recreate the fibers on the outer most portion of the disc.
Think of it like a spider spinning a web.
Because the discs do not have a direct blood supply,
they take much longer to heal. Tissues such as your
muscles have a direct blood supply which brings repair
materials to the tissue very rapidly. This is why muscle
tissue heals rapidly.
All the materials needed to repair the disc reach the
cells there by means of diffusion. This takes far longer
and requires that you gently move the spine around a
number of times a day so new raw materials can diffuse
into the area of the spinal discs. Repair of the disc can
take anywhere from a month to a year to fully heal. You
need to be very cautious during this time.
Back pain is a very common and very debilitating
medical condition. If you have friends or family with
current back pain or a history of back pain, please feel
free to forward this booklet to them. No one should
have to live with back pain.
