                           Tools and techniques used in planning

                           time – network analysis



               3.1   Network analysis

               Network analysis is used to analyse the inter-relationships between the tasks
               identified by the work breakdown structure and to define the dependencies of each
               task.

               A Critical Path Analysis (CPA) or network diagram can be drawn to show these inter-
               relationships and dependencies.


               3.2  The network diagram

                    The diagram is made up of two parts: activity lines and nodes.

                       Activity lines:

                                                        DURATION


                    The activity name and the duration of the activity are written on the arrow.





                       Nodes:





                    Nodes are numbered so that each node has a unique identifier.
