13.2 The shops are taking the following approaches:

                                        Shop Y Theory E

                                        Shop Z Theory O

According to Beer and Nohria there are two approaches for managing change.

Theory E is used where shareholder value is the main concern and normally
                     involves layoffs, downsizing and restructuring.

Theory O is a 'softer' approach to change, often involving cultural adjustment or
enhancing employee capabilities through individual and organisational learning.

Beer and Nohria suggest that both approaches should be used simultaneously.

               13.3 The correct answers are B, D and E

Takeovers and mergers are examples of direct external triggers. This is false.
Takeovers and mergers would be examples of internal triggers.

Internal triggers for change will only come from the strategic level of the
organisation. This is false. Internal triggers for change can come from any level
of the organisation and any functional area.
