               7.4   Quality control


                               Quality control (QC) involves a number of routine steps which
                               measure and control the quality of the product/ service as it is
                               developed.

               The problem of this approach is that is allows for built in waste whereas the
               techniques discussed in the remainder of this chapter aim to minimise or eliminate
               waste.


               7.5  Total quality management (TQM)




                                TQM is the continuous improvement in quality, productivity and
                                effectiveness obtained by establishing management responsibility
                                for processes as well as outputs.  In this, every process has an
                                identified process owner and every person in an entity operates
                                within a process and contributes to its improvements.
