Dear Sirs
Damages for plagiarism – ‘The Politics Game’
I suspect that you will not remember me. Up until 4 years ago I worked in the New Content
department at Couchweb; Javier Mercot was my ultimate line manager.
I was made redundant because (allegedly) “my performance was not up to expectations”,
something that I tried to contest at the time as I had worked on many of Couchweb’s more
successful TV programmes, including the pilot series of ‘Tumbling Down’. However, I was given
what seemed at the time to be a generous severance package, and I left quietly but puzzled.
However, I have recently been advised that I have a case for plagiarism against your company.
You see, it was me that first came up with the storyline for ‘The Politics Game’. I still have my
draft notes on an idea for a new TV drama involving a power-crazy husband and wife team who
seek to take control of the White House and who will stop at nothing to achieve their ambitions. I
showed these notes to my departmental head; surprise, surprise, I was made redundant 2 weeks
later! I understand from speaking to former colleagues that my departmental head was
subsequently credited with being the inspiration for the show.
I have now sought legal advice, and I am told that I have a good case. I am therefore instructing
my lawyers to sue Couchweb for $100 million for plagiarism. You will be hearing from my lawyers
shortly.
Yours faithfully
Tom Kelly
