You are working at your desk when you receive the following email from Jen Kramer, Couchweb

Subject: Legal claim re ‘The Politics Game’

I have received a letter today from Tom Kelly, a former employee of Couchweb, announcing that
he is suing the company for $100 million for plagiarism. I attach a copy of the letter for your
information; the contents are self-explanatory.
I am due to have lunch with Chet and Jo today, and want to raise this matter then. Unfortunately I
have got a busy morning with meetings that I cannot re-arrange, and so would welcome some
help from you. Could you please put together a briefing paper on the following:

Firstly, what are the possible steps that Couchweb can take in response to receipt of this letter? I
want as much practical advice as you can give me, please.

Secondly, it may well be that Couchweb has to make an announcement to the Stock Market,
informing that we have received such a claim. Could you please draft such an announcement for
me? I want to fulfil any statutory duties that we may have as a company to inform the market but
without being alarmist.
