Chapter 10

                           Data mining

Data mining is the analysis of data to unearth unsuspected or unknown
                           relationships, patterns and associations.

Data warehouses are for storing data, while data mining turns data into
                           information.

Data mining typically involves statistical techniques and modelling that
                           gives:

 associations – correlation between events

 sequences – one event leads to another

 classification – recognition of patterns

 clustering – finding groups of facts

 forecasting – predicting the future.
