got out of school. Afterwards, Mr. Ramous told Vance to have his Uncle Frank
get in touch with him.
That evening Vance told Uncle Frank that he saw Mr. Ramous downtown
that morning and he had asked him to have Uncle Frank get in touch with him.
Two days had passed when Uncle Frank gave Vance a piece of paper with
Mr. Ramous name on it and a downtown address. Uncle Frank told Vance
when he got out of school the next day to go to the address and see Mr.
Ramous about a part time job. Vance took the piece of paper and told Uncle
Frank thanks, Vance remember feeling like he was 10 feet tall, his first real
job he thought, he didn’t even know what it was he would be doing, he did not
even care, his first job he thought.
The next day Vance could not leave school fast enough, he was so excited;
usually he would hang around after his last class and flirt with some of the
girls he had gotten to know at his new school, but not that day. He recalled
how agitated he had become with the bus driver, that he got off and walked
part of the way. He felt the driver was going to make him late for his meeting
with Mr. Ramous. When Vance arrived Mr. Ramous was just walking out of
the side entrance to the warehouse, they greeted each other and Mr. Ramous
asked Vance to walk with him to get some lunch.
During that time Mr. Ramous told Vance all about the job and what would be
expected of him. Vance said that he understood and thanked him. Mr.
Ramous then started talking about his time in the Navy. Mr. Ramous had a lot
of interesting stories and they had all the elements that made up great movies.
Mr. Ramous was a great story teller, he even told Vance that he should
consider going in the Navy once he graduated. It was now the third race of
