fact that the man had inexplicably found his way back into the house.
A sense of peace and holiness emanated from the man as he motioned Jim to him. Jim felt an unspoken and powerful communication directing him to place his hands on the feet of the master. Jim did, and within moments, the enigmatic holy man was gone.
Needless to say, that extraordinary encounter captured Jim’s aention. He went to a bookstore known for its wide selection of spiritual books to look for the man’s identity. The salesman, upon hearing about the full hairstyle and orange robe, immediately knew that this was Sai Baba since he, himself, was a devotee. He brought Jim a book with Swami’s picture on the cover and a small packet of vibhuti, the holy ash that Sai Baba materializes for devotees. Vibhuti is said to have potent spiritual and healing properties. How surprised and delighted I was to hear from Jim that the book brought to him was Sai Baba: The Holy Man And The Psychiatrist! Jim now knew that the Sai Avatar had miraculously materialized in his home to awaken him to a higher level of spiritual fulfillment.
Jim found a Sai Baba Center near his home and aended regularly. It wasn’t until a year and a half later, while on a business trip to London, that he had an irresistible impulse to visit Sai Baba. He dropped everything and immediately flew to India. A few days aer his arrival, Swami gave him an interview and acknowledged that he had come to Jim twice in his home. He also told Jim, “Only those I allow can know me; only those I permit may come here.”
An Australian Awakening
In 1991, I was invited to speak at the Australian National Sai Conference. While traveling around Australia, I met an elderly couple that lived in the mountains outside of Brisbane. They were the first from their area to have visited Swami in
