REPORT ON CENTENNIAL CELEBRATIONS

First of all, let me express my sincere thanks to our District Governor Lion CA Shivaprasad MJF
for appointing me as the Chairman of the Organising Committee of the Centennial Celebration of
our District 318 E. With the whole hearted support and guidance from all of you, I am so happy to
say that the programme went off very well.
The celebration was inaugurated by our Past International Director Lion Er. R. Murugan PMJF.
We honoured the most respected man in India, the Principal Advisor , DMRC Dr. E.Sreedharan,
We also had the opportunity to honour Sri. Kaithapram Damodharan Namboodiri by giving him
The Big Achiever Award at the function.
On this occasion, we distributed 50 nos. of wheel chairs & one Analyser to Hospitals and 11 nos. of Autorikshaw under
District's She Auto Project to needy women. We also inaugurated the Digital Mother's Programme of our District with the
help of G Tech Computers. The programmes & entertainments were well organized. Thanks to all Chairmen for the hard
work to make this celebration a grand success.My special thanks to our Past Multiple Council Chairperson Lion K.T. Ajith
MJF, Lion Adv. Ratnakumar Mallissery, Lion Rajesh Kunhappan, Core Cabinet Members and all Region Chairpersons,
Zone Chairpersons who stood with me to make the Centennial Celebration a memorable one. Also , let me thank all the
Lion family members who gathered there with us to witness the function and make this a grand & memorable event.

REPORT ON KIDNEY CARE CAMPS

In the centennial year of this great organisation , our beloved District Governo r Lion CA K.
Shivaprasad MJF has given us a very apt slogan, 'Celebrate Lionism'. Past 7 months, we have
seen all clubs of our District carry out so many service projects, sports and cultural events. It has
been really a celebration of lionism, friendship and fellowship.
It's his visionary leadership that enabled DG Lion Shivaprasad to bring a CSR project of
Muthoot Finances Ltd, 'Muthoot Snehashraya' and the kidney care camps to our District. I am
extremely thankful to our DG for giving me the responsibility of successful implementation of
this project.
Statistics show that in Kerala ,nearly 7500 new cases of kidney failures are being added to the growing list of patients
requiring permanent dialysis or kidney transplant. This disease has a devastating effect not only on the patient but also his
entire family because of the financial burden of life long dialysis or kidney transplant.
The main reasons for chronic kidney disease or kidney failure are life style diseases. These include diabetes, high blood
pressure, high cholesterol, obesity and unhealthy food habits. This camp helps to detect these problems in the target
population between 30 and 55 years in our society and educate them on the need for life style modifications &/or
medications to prevent not only kidney disease but also heat attack, stroke, loss of eye sight etc.
Blood and urine tests worth Rs. 450/-which include fasting blood sugar, cholesterol, BP check-up, weight, waist
circumference and kidney function test including serum creatinine, urine albumin and blood test for hepatitis B infection
are done free of cost for the patient.
Each camp can check 180 beneficiaries and so a project worth `85,000 is rendered to the society. By April when we finish
camps, a service project worth Rs. 35 lakhs is being implemented in our district.
A look at the statistics of 20 camps conducted so far reveals that 46% are having life style diseases that require life style
modifications and 10% need medication in addition to life style modifications to prevent development of kidney failure,
heart attack, stroke etc.

active participation. My gratitude to all the regional co-ordinators of kidney care camps, RCs and ZCs for their support and
help. The real credit for the huge success and popularity of kidney care camps this year should go to all the PSTs who really
worked hard and utilized all the resources given to them. My sincere thanks to Mr. Jayesh of Muthoot Finance and all the
staff of the mobile laboratory for their co-operation.
