Eastern Musicians Visit U of M
Eastern High School musicians were invited to the University of Michigan School of Music Professor of Music Education Dr. Colleen Conway (School of Music, Theatre & Dance) recently. The invitation allowed our students to participate in clinics, sectionals and performances held by their students, teacher candidates, music education and conducting professors.
They traveled to the University of Michigan and had the honor of rehearsing in the historic Revelli Hall in the morning with DMA Wind Conducting student Elliott Tackitt and three junior conducting candidates, then broke into one on one instruction and group sectionals that were led by the 13 sophomore music education candidates. They also listened to a DMA trumpet performance and demonstration of the instruments in the trumpet family by Amanda Ross. Ross’ demonstration included the “Summon the Heroes” Olympic fanfare by John Williams, jazz styles and a Q&A. Students also toured Revelli Hall and rumor has it that they also got to try on U of M marching band hats.
U of M staff and students were complimentary of our students throughout the day. They were pleased with their quiet confidence, courtesy and kindness.
