Mapping objectives
This mapping aims to analyze the challenges facing youth and their living conditions
in Northwestern Syria. It also attempts to highlight the most relevant factors
affecting young people and the roles that can be played by civil society
organizations to empower them and help them regain their place in society. Finally,
this mapping tries to explore their views on the best solutions to improve their
conditions, their perspectives on the challenges they face and the possible
opportunities to overcome them.
The objectives of this mapping can be summarized as:
1. Identify the various root causes (political, social, economic, etc.) of the
challenges that youth are facing in Northwestern Syria.
2. Understand the perception of youth of their role in their communities,
and the different factors that contribute to influencing their awareness and
choices
3. Assess the situation of civic engagement and the level of freedom
available to youth in Northwestern Syria
4. Provide recommendations to civil society for possible response
strategies to improve the youth situation in Northwestern Syria.
While the objectives of this mapping are quite ambitious, it should be
acknowledged that small size projects will not resolve the systemic causes
of youth problems; these can only be truly addressed through longer-term
development programing in order to achieve stability in their regions.
However, to prevent other parties (including extremist groups) from
exploiting youth grievances to gain civil control and increase legitimacy, it
is imperative that civil society organizations are empowered with the tools
and resources necessary to address these issues, which will contribute
positively to the improvement of the current situation.
