Executive Summary
Funded by Development Transformations (DT) on behalf of the Department of State’s
Bureau of Near East Affairs (NEA), Shaml Coalition Shaml has conducted as mapping
exercise to assess the situation of young people in Northwest Syria
Shaml members have conducted 1328 quantitative surveys and 35 key informant interviews
(KIIs) across four districts in Idlib Province (Ariha, Hrim, Maarat al-Nu’man, and Idleb) and
two districts in Aleppo Province (Jabel Saman, Al Bab).
analytical filters were then applied to the collected data to identify the potential drivers in
each of the seven communities. The findings were then validated through facilitated focus
group discussions (FGDs) with youth in those communities. Finally, these validated drivers
were utilized to develop its systemic cause analysis and recommended associated activity
concepts, a critical component informing the small grants implementation to ensure that
activity design targets underlying root causes of problems that youth are facing.
