P. 9
The Main Findings Summary
Political rights
The youth population has a clear understanding of the impact of the political
situation on their lives. Most of the young people surveyed believe that the
group primarily responsible for most problems in Syria at a long-term level
is the Assad regime (56%), followed by foreign intervention (29%). Thus,
they are pinpointing the root causes of problems facing Syria and obtain
that Syria should focus on supporting a meaningful political transition
process, otherwise, the main causes of grievances will prevail.
The threat imposed by violent extremist groups appears to be more relevant
at the local level than on the national level (14% versus 4%). Nevertheless, it
is perceived significantly less a threat than those imposed by the Assad
regime (56% nationally versus 43% locally).
Freedom of expressing opinions and access to justice are compromised in
these areas (63%, and 52% respectively), and as such more inclusion of
youth in the decision-making process of their societies and strengthening
of the juristic system is important.
