With the passage of the Covid-19 in the world, many transformations have been
evidenced both in economic, cultural, employment, and environmental matters, and thus I
can continue mentioning the different fields of our society that have had both positive and
negative changes; But no matter what its impact has been, this new reality has left a great
teaching to all of us and to the new generations in the care and importance that we must
give to planet earth.
This time I will focus on the changes presented in the field of employment that emerged
after the arrival of Covid-19 on March 6, 2020 in our country. When the Ministry of Health
and Social Protection confirmed the first case of the new coronavirus in Colombia to a 19-
year-old patient; Government authorities initiated protocols to take the necessary
precautions to prevent the virus from spreading rapidly.
Health authorities expressed that the national government should take forceful actions if it
did not want to fall into high levels of mortality due to Covid-19, as was recorded in Asian
and European countries and even the potential increase in infections in the United States.
For this reason, the most forceful measure at the time was to order total mandatory
confinement in the main cities of the country, which generated a negative outlook on the
country's profitability indexes and a projection on the increase in unemployment rates.
Since March 21, 2020, the main businesses were closed and commerce had to reinvent
the way to publicize and market their products. The main companies sent their
collaborators to telework, which their functions allowed; But there were many other
employees in operating areas such as restaurants, bars, street vendors, among others,
who had to modify the contractual terms, from the reduction of the payment, freezing or
termination of the employment contract.
