Module 2: Getting Ready for Writing Teacher’s Guide.
Objective: How tall am I? - Spatial position of the animals
Lesson Plan:
Visually reinforcing the spatial position and height of the animal characters.
Have the following resources available on the table: Wipe and Write Board Introductory Level, ensure the wide paper is on the top, with the animal characters from the Hemispheres Think Write Cognitive Games Pack.
1. Ask the children to place Harriet the Cow on the grass line on the Wipe and Write Board.
2. Ask the children to tell you how tall she is. Where does she reach up to?
3. The children should answer ‘the clouds’.
4. Repeat this process with all of the animals.
5. Reinforce verbally to the children that the animal stands on the grass and
reaches
Things to Consider:
1. This activity visually demonstrates the
abstract concepts of height and spatial position.
It can be used to help reinforce spatial concepts with the younger children or those who need more help to understand the position of the animals.
2. The children need to understand this concept before learning to copy or how to form the starting shapes in Module 2.
