CAREER & TECHNICAL EDUCATION ELECTIVES
Finance
Financial Literacy: Students will learn the hands-on money skills everyone should know to be successful.
Students study financial planning, money management, and independent living, including income, budgeting,
banking, credit, insurance, taxes, investments, and major purchases.
Work-Based Learning and Education
Work-Study 1*: Students will be released early from school for 1 period. Students must have a stable job (paid
or unpaid) and work at least 5 hours per week.
* Application and teacher approval required.
Work-Study 2*: Students will be released early from school for 2 periods. Must have a stable job (paid or unpaid)
and work at least 10 hours per week.

Examining the Teaching Profession*: 12th graders only. Are you planning to become a teacher? Study, apply,
and practice teaching strategies in this course!

Nutrition & Food Science Pathway
Food, Nutrition & Wellness (9th grade only): The focus of the course is centered on healthy food and lifestyle choices.
Students will investigate the interrelationship of food, nutrition, and wellness to promote good health. The curriculum
teaches the skills necessary to make wise food choices, evaluate nutritional information, prevent chronic diseases,
and practice food safety procedures. This is the introductory course for the Nutrition and Food Science pathway.
Food for Life: 4th-year science! Learn about nutrient requirements from conception to adulthood. This is the second
course for the Nutrition and Food Science pathway.
Food Science*: 4th-year science! Chemistry based evaluation of food and nutrients, food preparation, and new
products. This is the third course for the Nutrition and Food Science pathway.
