        Student Club

The Student Club is a legally constituted body. Its key office bearers are elected annually to take

on leadership roles as members of the Student Club Executive. Becoming a member of a College
is a privilege and our community will only thrive if all its members believe in fellowship and
contribution to College life. There will be many opportunities for you to explore college life through
sport, the arts, music, and community involvement. Most of these activities will be organised and
supported by the Student Club Executive, but many others will evolve with an idea from students.

We ask you to support the Executive – who do a huge amount of voluntary work for your
enjoyment – and engage in as many ways as you can.

        Student Club Values

As the first college in Australia, and one of the first in the world, to admit women into residence,
Janet Clarke Hall prides itself on its deep commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusivity, and
offers its members a brave space for rigorous discussion and debate.

The Student Club provides an environment for academic and personal growth as a foundation for
achievement and fulfilment. Through opportunities for participation and leadership in sport, the
arts, music, intellectual enquiry, and volunteering, the College provides an open space for all
students to try something new. We pride ourselves on our ability to help students step outside their

comfort zone, in an environment full of encouragement and free from judgement. Our strong
College culture is underpinned by mutual respect and appreciation for our differences of opinion
and experience, and encourages friendships between students of different levels of study,
        academic disciplines, and cultural backgrounds.

The Student Club plays an important role in maintaining a respectful culture, and we are
committed to working closely with staff to ensure that this is enjoyed by all members of our
community. With a student body of around a hundred students, we form a supportive group in
which every student is valued for who they are and for the unique perspectives and strengths they

bring to our community. We recognise the great privilege of being able to live, learn, and grow in
our beautiful residential college environment, and we encourage our members to use their talents
to give back to the wider community through service now and in the future.
