        Pastoral Care and Wellbeing

Janet Clarke Hall prides itself on being a friendly and supportive environment. If you are going

through a difficult time, having trouble adjusting to university or College life, struggling
academically, feel lonely or homesick, or just need to chat to someone confidentially about what
is going on in your life, staff are here to help you.

The Deputy Principal is the head of Pastoral Care and wellbeing and, along with the Resident

Tutors, is very happy to try and assist you with any personal issues. The Tutors are available to talk
over any problems you may be experiencing, either at university or in your private life. If necessary,
they can refer you to other health and wellbeing services. All pastoral care assistance will be
confidential unless you or someone else is at risk of serious harm, or if you agree for the
        conversation to be shared.

All Resident Tutors possess formal First Aid and Mental Health First Aid training and can be helpful in
a variety of ways. Resident Tutors are supported in their role by the Deputy Principal – who is a
registered psychologist – and the Dean of Studies, and can assist in helping you to find the right

services and obtain a referral if needed.

Depending on the advice or support required, you are welcome to approach any of the day staff
        – in person or via email. This could include seeking advice on budgeting or personal finances from
our Business Manager, or how to organise your personal schedule with our Office Manager. You

can find the contact details for all staff members both online and in this Handbook.

JCH has a clear duty of care and if a student’s life or anyone else’s life is considered to be at risk,
the Tutor (or other staff member) will seek advice and discuss the actions available with the
Deputy Principal or Principal. Every student has this duty of care to their fellow students. In cases

where you believe there is a possibility of serious harm, you are obliged to inform the Deputy
Principal or another member of staff immediately of your concern.
