University support services
As in all other areas, the College cannot hope to be, and cannot be expected to provide, a total
care network for all the problems you may encounter in university life.
It is important to note that, in addition to the support provided within College, there is a variety of
services provided for you on the University campus. These include personal and career
counselling, welfare and financial assistance and advice, disability support, health and medical
services, and Chaplaincy. If you need help in engaging with these services, please speak to the
Deputy Principal or the Tutors who will be able to assist you in obtaining a referral. These services
are free and confidential. You can find the contact details of these providers on the UoM website
or at the back of this Handbook.
Your health
In order to study effectively and live well, you have to look after your body. You need to maintain,
as a matter of priority, a balance between a fun and active social life, and an approach to diet,
sleep, stress management, and physical exercise, which will enable you to flourish. We are happy
to support you in any way we can, and can provide guidance on different health and wellbeing
services available to you.
For optimal brain function it is important that we look after our bodies, ensuring we get some form
of physical exercise. This can be accomplished in many ways: make the most of your MU Sports
membership and the classes and facilities on offer, go for a walk or a run around the surrounding
area, play some sport on the tennis court at JCH, or take part in the intercollegiate sporting
program. Regular exercise is also important for sleep and can assist with maintaining good mental
health.
