Region's bars ordered to reclose
Recent sharp increase in positive cases spurs action from Newsom

The gradual reopening of California dur- ing the COVID-19 pandemic sharply shifted gears last week, as a spike in positive tests prompted Gov. Gavin Newsom on June 28 to order bars closed in seven counties — including Fresno, Tulare, Kings and Kern counties in the Central Valley.
That means all bars, breweries, brew pubs and pubs that don't offer sit-down, dine-in meals will be forced to shut their doors just days after being allowed to reopen

Sanger revises mask order, again, to comply with state's mandate

It appears the city of Sanger was ahead of the curve when it comes to requiring the use of masks after it made yet another revision to its emer- gency order regarding face coverings on June 26.

$66.3M
budget

On June 23, the city of Di- nuba unanimously approved the city’s fiscal year 2020-21 proposed budget.
The operating budget is $66.3 million with $16.6 mil- lion going into the general fund.
Unlike other city’s strug- gled with their deficits due to the pandemic, Dinuba was $1.4 million in the black. The city had projected an increase in sales tax revenues primar- ily driven by strong on-line sales. Revenues from online sales represent approximate- ly 75 percent of total sales tax revenues in the general fund.

It was just before 2 a.m. the morning of June 25 when Roy Ortega, manager at the Maxco Supply plant in southeast
in Reedley said his cellphone rang and woke him up out of a deep sleep.
“I was half asleep and looked at the call — it was from work,” he said. “Someone was calling to let me know the plant was on fire.”
Ortega —who has been with Maxco for 40 years — said after receiving the call he quickly rushed to the site at 2059 Olson Ave. from his home in Fresno.
“I drove down Highway 180 and it must have taken me 20 minutes to get here,” he said. “I was so worried that our offices had been completely destroyed.”

MVT offices will close on July 3 in observance of Independence Day
The Mid Valley Times' business offices in Dinuba, Reedley and Sanger will be closed on Friday, July 3, in observance of the In- dependence Day holiday.
The Times' three of- fices will reopen for busi- ness at 8 a.m. on Monday, July 6.

Officers were called out to an early morning shooting in the area of Palm and Greenwood av- enues on June 25 in yet another shooting in the city of Sanger.
When officers arrived to the location on Palm Avenue at around 5:30 a.m., they located a male victim in his 60s who was suffering from a gunshot wound. At the scene, officers
say they located and identi- fied the suspect and related evidence, including a firearm that was believed to have been used in the shooting.
The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where he underwent surgery and was ex- pected to make a full recovery.
The suspect, identified as Chance Yamada, was arrested and booked into the Fresno County Jail on attempted mur- der charges.
