Inspirational Adult Volunteers attend Downton Abbey Premier
A former CCF cadet, Gareth Neame, who
is the CEO of Carnival Films and Executive Producer of the new Downton Abbey movie,
is a generous benefactor of Combined Cadet Force Association (CCFA), the charity which supports CCF cadets. He has previously visited CCF Central Camps and which bolstered
his enthusiasm for supporting the Cadet Expansion Programme into the future and for the long term. This year, he offered up 4 tickets to attend the latest Downton Abbey worldwide premiere, which he describes as a ‘money can’t buy’ type experience, for inspirational CCF Cadet Force Adult Volunteers who go over and above for their cadets.
2Lt Colette Warrender, who is the Contingent Commander at Ormiston CCF in Grimsby, was put forward by the Schools Cadet Expansion Officer for Yorkshire and Humber, Alex Summers, and the Cadet Training Team at 4 Brigade, to receive a ticket and was successful in being selected.
Following her experience in London, on
25th April 2022, 2Lt Warrender wrote: “It was an absolute honour and privilege to be invited to the Downton Abbey Premier and to be recognised for the work the contingent has
put in over the last few years. I took over the contingent in October 2018 after the previous Contingent Commander left the school. It
was a real learning curve; my only experience with the CCF was attending Summer camp
as a school volunteer. With the help of the Cadet Training Team and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (5 of whom are previous cadets from the school), we have worked extremely hard to get to a point where the contingent is not only surviving, but thriving.”
As it’s a substantial journey from Grimsby to London, The Reserve Forces and Cadets Association, in partnership with Ormiston Marine Academy, were able to support with a small grant towards her travel and accommo- dation to allow Colette to attend the event.
Well done, Colette. Very well deserved!

A DAY ON THE RANGE!
Cadets recently enjoyed a successful, even sunny, day on the 25m range at Strensall and for most of the cadets this was their first experience of live firing. Having the opportunity to take part in a shooting activity such as this is what many cadets want to experience the most and the day did not disappoint anyone. There were some excellent scores with two senior cadets, Sgt Hannah Wardman and Cpl Macy Walsh leading by example achieving Marksman!
