NOTE:
When routing the Ethernet cable to the monitor, run it along grounded
metal surfaces like conduits or metal ducts, preferably away from power
cables. The Ethernet cable should not run on open trays alongside power
cables.
5.12.2. Fiber-Optic Connection
An external fiber-optic converter can be connected to the GuardII+ for communications
over a fiber-optic network. Contact Iris Power LP for information about ordering this
accessory.
5.13. Alert Relay Connection
The Alert Relay is a solid-state device that provides a method of alerting plant personnel
if the measurement results exceed configured thresholds (the available results will depend on
the installed monitoring technologies). Note that the Alert Relay does not provide a source
voltage; it switches a provided voltage. The example in Figure 5-17 shows a lamp indicator
as the load; however, the load can be a digital input in a control system (such as PLC and
SCADA) or an input for an alarm system.
NOTE:
Each monitoring technology has its own requirements for detecting Alerts.
The Alert relay will only function if the technology and the Alert behavior
are fully configured; refer to the specific monitoring technology User
Manuals and the IAM User Manual for details.
NOTE:
Once connected, the Alert behavior and thresholds need to be configured
in the monitor for the Alert relay to fully function. Refer to the technology-
specific User Manuals for details on configuring the Alerts.
