User Instructions
6. User Instructions
Once fully configured, GuardII+ automatically collects and stores measurement data,
checks for Alert conditions, and collects/updates Modbus information. However, if a feature
is not used, then the monitor cannot operate to its fullest extent. For example, if the Alert
Relay is not connected, or the Alert Thresholds are not set, then the entire Alert function will
not work. The only way to tell if the measured data indicates a potential problem is by
downloading and analyzing the data or by monitoring the Modbus data registers.
NOTE:
While this manual describes what needs to be done in the IAM software to
use a GuardII+ system, the complete details on how to use IAM are
described in the IAM User Manual.
6.1. First-Time Configuration
GuardII+ monitoring technologies require configuration before they can be used. When a
GuardII+ is started up for the first time, or when a new monitoring technology is added, the
Error indicator will blink green; this means that one or more technologies need to be
configured. Any monitoring technologies that are not configured will not take measurements.

NOTE:
In cases where the GuardII+ is left partially configured (for example, the
PD system is configured, but the Flux system is not), then only the
monitoring technology that is configured will function normally.
6.2. IAM Preparation
Before the GuardII+ can be configured, there is some preparatory work to do.
6.2.1. Database Setup
If there is no existing IID database for storing measurement results, a new one needs to
be created. Once the database is created, add organizations and plants as needed; the
structure can be as simple or as complex as desired. After the structure is completed, add an
asset for linking to the monitor.
