Marit Fosse and John Fox have written a book entitled jVansen;
Explorer and Humanitarian, which takes us back to those
promising days of the twentieth century when the League of
Nations was set up. Fridtjof Nansen, a Norwegian explorer,wanted
to concentrate on his scientific work, but changed his mind when
he was told that it would only take a couple of months to resolve
the issue of returning prisoners-of-war.What was initially a couple
of months turned into a new departure for Nansen, since he
dedicated the remainder of his life to solving major humanitarian
crises. Between 1926 and 1929 Nansen attempted to save the
remnants of theArmenianpopulationfrom
extinction and continued to support
their independent homeland until
