emerged from its cavern, I appeared in its vision and its power broke only for a
moment.
In the moment of freedom I saw the beast for what it was. I saw hatred and
anguish. I saw the destroyer of innocence.
My sister, who was only four at the time, had yet to realise the actuality of
the world we were placed in. She still saw beauty everyday and experienced
freedom. However, I was already twelve at the time, of course I still tried to live in
freedom and ignore the adult world, but there always come a time where a child
slips away.
The beast’s ugly greed caused its power to lessen upon me. Having two
meals was new to the beast and doubled its cocky nature.
As soon as I was in range the beast evolved from a kind figure to the
wretched demon it longs to be. It grabbed my sister and I with talons so sharp a
light touch would pierce the skin. Our cries echoed but were silenced by the
ground swallowing us up. The beast let us go and I reached for my crying sister in
the darkness. She was covered in blood and as my eyes adjusted to the darkness I
noticed the beast was nowhere to be found. There was nothing but dirt, no source
of light except the few lasting rays of the outside world that slipped through the
cracks in the ceiling.
My sister wrapped her arms around me muttering phrases of fear. She
whimpered as I held her and I shook as I wiped my own tears. My mind raced as I
tried to figure a way out, but fear was blocking all of my senses and all I could do
was sit and weep.
The silence was finally broken by a low growl. The monstrosity appeared
out of the never ending darkness with a cruel grin. My sister screamed again and it
attacked. Frozen in fear I watched as my sister was taken from me. She called out
