What I Would Say
The room is full of various people, almost everyone I recognize from last
year. There’s just one person who I don’t recall seeing.
The girl sitting beside me must be new. I would’ve noticed her before if she
wasn’t. Her short red hair is vibrant and contrasts her bright green eyes. The
multiple piercings on her ears are shaped like metallic leaves and that, paired with
her impish features, remind me of an elf. She smiles to me and my stomach
flutters.
“Hi! I’m Stella Williams, I’m new here.”
My face flushes, “I’m Parker Mills.”
“How long have you been a part of the GSA?”
I take a moment to collect my thoughts, I always get flustered around
beautiful people, “Uhm, this is my second year.”
Her smile is bright, “That’s so cool! Obviously, it’s my first year here, but at
my old school I was the founder of the club.”
My jaw drops and she laughs as I stammer, “Really?”
“Yeah, it was just a couple of my friends and my math teacher who
supervised us, but it was really fun.”
Just then, the GSA leader, Miss. Camm, walks in. She’s wearing her
transgender pride pin on her suit. As we begin to discuss the details of tomorrow’s
bake sale, Stella and I keep meeting each other’s gazes. My heart is pounding and
my cheeks are so hot I think I’m going to spontaneously combust.
As we leave to go to our next class, Stella asks me, “So what are you
planning on making?”
I look down at the floor and mumble, “Nothing actually, I’m not out to my
mom so I can’t make anything at home for the GSA.”
