I walk to Stella’s locker and wait while she packs up her bag and Stella does
the same for me. I quickly send a text to my mom, telling her that I’m going to a
friend’s house to do some homework.
Stella walked to school this morning, but I borrowed my family’s rusted, old
minivan so I offer to drive to her house.
Once we pull into Stella’s driveway, I realize where we are.
“Oh, my God.” I whisper, “Stella guess what?”
Stella looks concerned, “What?” she stammers.
“We’re neighbours.”
Now Stella just looks shocked, “No way.”
“Yes way,” I point to the house right beside hers, “I live right beside you!”
We’re both jumping up and down and squealing.
Stella takes my hand and pulls me on to the grass in between our houses,
“Which one’s your bedroom?”
I point to a window on the second floor of my house, and Stella has even
more good news, “Our bedrooms’ are facing each other!”
We’re jumping and screaming again, we both exclaim at the same time, “It’s
exactly like Taylor Swift’s music video for ‘You Belong With Me’!!!!!”
This makes us double over in laughter, I’m not sure how long we stay like
that. Every time we look at each other, another bout of laughter explodes from us.
Once we eventually calm down and stop planning out how we can talk to
each other, we go inside Stella’s house and start baking. As we walk down the
main hallway towards the kitchen, I stop and gape at the amount of LGBT+
paraphernalia that is hung up on the walls.
Stella laughs at my reaction as they explain, “Once I came out as a demigirl
and pansexual, my moms kind of went overboard on the whole ‘support thing’.”
