Page 73 - Fallen Thoughts
P. 73
There are people all around the park. With a curse, I realize along with the
collapse of the play structure, the dome around the park fell. Everyone seems
entranced by the Angler’s glow.
“No!” I scream as I limp towards the monster.
The Angler roars at me and I growl back, as it races in my direction, I collect
as many shadows as I can. Right before it rips my throat out, I slam it back with
another bout of darkness and encase it in shadows.
I finally let myself breathe. My attention once again turns to the spectators
around the park. If they can’t see the light, the effect should cease, right? They’re
closer than before. So close, that I can see their zombie-like trances.
“But-” I whirl back around to the Angler to see a pulsing glow from inside
the shadow cage. I don’t even have time to think before the shadows dissipate and
the Angler comes rushing at me once again.
I don’t have time to shield myself before I’m lifted into the air and thrown
back onto the ground. I gasp for the air my lungs scream for, and watch in horror
as the Angler’s fingers grab hold of my torso, the sharp claws- do fish have
claws?- ripping my skin. I form another dagger and swing at its hanging light.
It screams when I make contact, drawing blood across its eyes. I scramble
away as soon as it drops me to the ground. I need to end this quickly, but I don’t
know how. I thought cutting it off from all light, would do something. And I
suppose it did, the Angler got stronger.
When the beast stops howling and begins to come after me again, I shape
three throwing knives out of its own shadow and launch them into its chest. This
gives me more time to get farther away, which in turn gives me time to think.
All I know about the Angler is its strength comes from its light, and
secluding it in the dark makes it stronger. I growl through clenched teeth as I
continue to limp away. This doesn’t make sense!
