Meagan pulls away, still close enough so I can see the miniscule freckles on

her nose and the flecks of silver in her brown eyes. My eyes move down to her

chapped lips as she speaks, “No, I’m not leaving you, Chels.”

“Oh,” I was going to say more but Meagan closes the distance between us

and kisses me. She tastes like the Chinese take out we had for dinner before our

fight and the taste of copper from my split lip mingling with the wonton soup.

In the kiss we both murmur to each other, we love each other, we’re both

here, neither of us are going anywhere.

After I don’t know how long, we decide we both need rest. Meagan moves

to gather her things to return to her own apartment a couple blocks away.

I grab her hand to get her attention and stammer out, “Can you stay here?

Just for tonight! I just- I don’t want to be alone.”

Meagan smiles softly at me and leads me to my bed.

We snuggle up together, our noses brushing and our legs tangled together, I

sigh and close my eyes, breathing in Meagan’s smell of apples and vanilla.

I’m drifting into sleep when I hear Meag’s voice, “I forgot to ask you before,

but when did you get a dog?”
