Me: Idk Elaine…
Elaine: K. You know it’s not your fault, you can’t help it sometimes.
I really can, I got off balance, I showed weakness in the battle right after
doing too much. It is my fault.
I feel bad distancing myself from my twin, of all people, but it’s really for
the best. The longer I lay low the better.
I adjust my blanket over my head and tuck my knees into my chest and
continue to flip through the channels. As the same depressing stories play over and
over again I’m stopped by an all too familiar face on the screen.
My father.
The newscaster begins her prepared speech as images pass across the
screen. The astonishing businessman and leader in biotech has deemed himself a
hero once again. With the devastation of the recent attack by the Deviants still
taking its toll on citizens, Dr. Taylor has ensured us all will be fine. Using his
latest technology he’s swiftly cleaned up the carnage and is working to rebuild the
stem cell research lab as soon as possible. Dr. Taylor has also donated a heavy
amount of money to the families who lost their loved ones in the accident.
“Ya and how much did he pay you to say that sweetie?” I remark while
changing the channel once more.
I turn off the T.V and lie down on my couch. I feel myself relax and I might
even get some sleep tonight.
The accident plays over in my head again and again as usual. I close my
eyes and whisper to myself.
“I’m sorry Lucas.”
