“Hi El,” I solemnly look to her, before shouting, “I’m gonna win today!”

Elaine replies with a giggle “You never win though”.

Daddy walks over to us, double checking our helmets and talking to himself.

“How have your headaches been girls?” Daddy asks while touching

Elaine’s face.
“Chips are still good, we are ready to begin the procedure sir,” A woman

states from a computer screen.
The people in the lab coats walk over to us with the needles. They used to

hurt but we’ve started having test days a lot more often I’m getting used to it.
Daddy walks over to me and gives me a hug.

“I love you Kimille” Daddy says while tears brim in his eyes.

Chapter 2

I flip through the channels on the T.V over and over again expecting a

different news story every time. Murder in small town, new disease rapidly

spreading in poor cities, nuclear threats in the coming conflict. There's always

something wrong with people.

A text from Elaine interrupts my thoughts.

Elaine: Hey, just checking in. Things have slowed down over here and

we’re adjusting. Can we meet sometime?

Me: That’s good, I’m glad it’s getting better.

Elaine: You didn’t answer my question sis, can we meet, not with the team,

just us?
