There  are  many  different  kinds  of  stories,  but  a  number  of  themes  is  common  across  cultures.
                         For  example,  the  importance  of  family  relationships  appear  again  and  again.  Hard  work  and

                         honesty  is  also  important  theme  in  children’s  stories.  What  else  do  the  children  learn?  Perhaps
                         most  importantly,  they  learn  that  all  human  beings  are  the  same.  There  is  a  little  difference

                         between  people.  Everybody  have  the  same  dreams,  hopes,  and  fears.

                         You  are  going  fo  listen  to  an  excerpt  from  a  traditional  Native  American  story  told  by
                         the  Chippewa  people  of  North  America.  The  title  of  the  story  is  “The  Wonderful  Turtle.”
                         Read  the  first  part  of  the  story.  Write  the  articles  and  verbs  that  you  think  are  missing.

                            Near  a  Chippewa  village  was  (1)      large  lake,  and  in  (2)      lake  there  lived

                         (3)  ____  enormous  turtle.  This  (4)  ______  no  ordinary  turtle  because  he  would  often
                         come  out  of  his  home  in  that  lake  and  visit  with  his  Indian  neighbors.  He  made  most  of

                         his  visits  to  (5)  ____  head  chief  of  the  tribe,  and  on  these  occasions  he  stayed  for  hours
                         talking  with  him.

                            The  chief,  seeing  that  (6)      turtle  was  very  smart  and  showed  great  wisdom,  took  a

                         generally  asked  Mr.  Turtle  to  help  him  decide.

                         Listen  to  the  next  part  of  the  story.  Take  notes  to  help  you  answer  the  questions  that

                         follow.  Then  ask  and  answer  the  questions  with  a  partner.

                            Who  did  the  turtle  say  was  right?
                            Why  did  he  make  this  decision?
                          -   How  did  the  people  react  to  the  turtle’s  decision?  What  did  they  do?

                         Work  in  a  group.  Make  up  an  ending  fo  the  story.  Then  tell  your  ending  to  the  class.
                         Decide  as  a  class  which  group  had  the  best  ending.
