1 READ & NOTICE THE GRAMMAR.

A Think about a city you know well. What is your favorite place in that city? What is your least
favorite part of it? Tell a partner about it. Then read the text.

                           A Vital Restoration

Like any city, Seoul can be a stressful
place to live. City residents living with
crowds and pollution need outdoor spaces
to experience nature. This is why the
Cheonggyecheon project, a new park built
around an ancient stream, has a great
                           design.

Before the park was built, the stream was
covered by a big, noisy highway. Having lived
near the highway at that time, I remember
it. It was not a nice place to walk around
because there was so much traffic. In 2003,
the city began removing the highway and
building a park next to the stream.

Whenever I go for a walk in that area
now, I feel refreshed. Seeing the greenery
and flowing stream, I can leave behind the
stress of city life. It’s a great place to hang
out with friends or to sit and relax. Now that
Cheonggyecheon is such a nice park, people visit it more often and take more walks.
Even though the project cost a lot of money, I think it was worth it. Having brought
beautiful scenery to Seoul, Cheonggyecheon was good for the city. Other cities should build
similar parks so that their residents can have a beautiful place to go and relax.
