Clever Clothes
These days we want clothes to make us look
good and to protect us from the weather. However,
scientists say that things are going to change. Thanks
to technological advances, soon we will be wearing
clever clothes such as the following.
e Cell Phone Jackets: These jackets will
power a cell phone when we pusha button J
on the sleeve.!
¢ Health-Monitoring Shirts: These shirts will check our heart rate and blood pressure and
will collect other important health information while we go about our daily lives. They
will inform us of any possible problems.
e¢ GPS? Clothes for Kids: These clothes have built-in GPS tracking systems. They will allow
parents to watch their children on the computer and know where they are at all times.
e Military “First-Aid”? Uniforms: These uniforms will allow soldiers to turn the sleeve or
leg of their clothing into casts* if they break a bone. This way, soldiers will be able to treat
injuries as soon as they happen.
Scientists are developing all kinds of intelligent textiles in their labs. However, we won't see
many clever clothes in stores until researchers learn how to make them comfortable to wear.
When that happens, there will probably be a clothing revolution! Experts say that clever clothes
will change not only the fashion industry but also the way we think. We will still want clothes to
look good, but we will also want them to work for us.
