5.4 Curriculum Vitae

CV stands for Curriculum Vitae, which means "course of
life" in Latin. It is a concise document which summarises the past
and existing skills, proficiency and experiences of someone. The
purpose of this document is to demonstrate that the person has
the necessary skills to do the job that he is applying for. Most
CVs include the person's personal information, education and
qualifications, work experience, interests and achievements.
There are also some other items that should be included when
writing a CV e.g. company's activity, mission and vision and the
required skills for the specific job. It is important for the
candidate to see if there is any specific information to be
included in the CV e.g. current jobs and jobs that the person had
in the past. It is also important to write hobbies and interests that
give a positive image for the person. These hobbies and interests
include for instance being the captain of a football team,
organiser of a charity event, and a member in the student union at
the faculty. Skills often include computing skills, languages
skills, or specific skills the company is looking for i.e. targeted
skills. An instance of targeted skills: "If the applicant is applying
to be an airline ticketing and reservation agent, he should list that
he/she has a good grasp of Amadeus GDS".
