nothing, their own lives are not changed, they remain the
licentious sinners they had been, and have no marks of the
new life of grace in them. No, friend; grace comes with
power, the supernatural power that teaches us to live lives
different from our past when we lived licentiously in sin
and offended God with impunity.
Jesus spoke along this line in the report of Matthew 13:10-
11. “And the disciples came and said to Him, “Why do You
speak to them in parables?” He answered and said to them,
“Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the
kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.” Yes, for
those who have not accepted God’s grace, we know them by
their fallen state and their works of the flesh (Galatians
5:19-21), but after grace enters, we become opened to the
mysteries of God’s Kingdom, and are changed; then it
shows by the life of Christ we begin to live by the power of
God’s grace.
Notice that the early disciples made a distinction in
separating themselves from the words the multitudes were
receiving as parables. Paul gave further explanation to how
grace enables us to comprehend what hitherto were
considered mysteries.
“For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ
Jesus for you Gentiles— if indeed you have heard
of the dispensation of the grace of God which was
given to me for you, how that by revelation He
