The Dangers of Grace
also by one Man’s obedience many will be made
righteous. Moreover the law entered that the
offense might abound. But where sin abounded,
grace abounded much more, so that as sin reigned
in death, even so grace might reign through
righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ
our Lord. What shall we say then? Shall we
continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly
not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer
in it?”
This passage deals with the issue of living in sin with the
hope that the grace of God will be retained or increased to
overshadow the offence and sin. Imagine a case of someone
who comes to church, hears of the love and saving grace of
God, then makes a decision to turn his life over to Jesus.
Now newly saved, if he is erroneously taught that all the sins
he had committed, is committing or will ever commit, have
all been paid for by the blood of Jesus, he will be misled to
continue in sin in the false hope that he could sin with
impunity. He has been given no reason to discard his past
