GRACE, Exploring Its Riches
some preachers are known to tell the suffering captives to
go and bring certain items from the communities their
parents hail from, and on those items certain prayers are to
be made to set the captives free.
In the so-called sophisticated societies, like in America, the
people may be told to “sow a seed” of a particular amount in
monetary terms. “But you have not so learned Christ,” Paul
warns in Ephesians 4:20-21, “if indeed you have heard Him
and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus.” We
have to go back to the basic principles of salvation by simple
faith after repentance from sin. Trusting in legalistic
practices to equate the finished work of Christ will surely
end in futility. No one gets saved or delivered outside the
accomplished work of Christ who paid the required price
for our complete redemption and total deliverance.
iii. Insulting the Spirit of Grace:
Our opening text of Hebrews 10:26-31 makes clear how it
is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God, and
why wilful sinners must not take God for granted. I
caution, therefore, that to deliberately continue sinning
after one had received the knowledge of the truth amounts
to insulting the Spirit of Grace; and that is something that
never goes without severe reprimand. The Bible that talks
about the expectation of God’s terrible judgment and the
raging fire that will consume all unrepentant sinners is not
giving some suggestions you may wish to accept or refuse.
It is a definite repercussion for sins not confessed and sins
not purged.
