we also have to deal with in today’s church. From Africa to
Europe, to Asia and to America, there are diverse forces
trying to lure the Church away from the simplicity that is in
Christ and His grace. The issues and strategies may be
different from one society to another, but there is a
common effort to take the faith of the saints away from the
simplicity that is in Christ, into subtle or outright
substitution of something alien to our common faith for
the true grace of God.
Strange Additions to Bible Truths
Some of the practices that have made some believers to fall
from the grace of Jesus Christ include the following:
i. Adding extra-biblical practices to our common
salvation in Christ:
Over twenty years ago, as a younger minister of the gospel,
I had a funny, but shocking experience. A visitor came late
one day to see my neighbour, apparently without notice;
but my neighbour was out of town. The young man
pleaded with me to pass the night with me in my section of
the house. I obliged him and set up a camp bed for him to
stay with me in my room. At night I got up to use the
restroom and was amazed at what I saw. My guest was fast
asleep, but he had tied a handkerchief around his wrist,
another one around his neck, and yet another one to the
bed. I was shocked but also amused.
