The Dangers of Grace
Believers Who Sin
There are few things to be noted in the Hebrews 10:26-31
text that show how certain Christians have come to find
themselves trapped in sinful habits that contradict the
grace we profess.
i. Profession of salvation without commitment to
repentance:
It is impossible for anyone to be saved without repentance
from sin. Whether it was John the Baptist who proclaimed
and prepared the way for Jesus Christ, or Christ Himself
when His ministry started, the matter of repentance was
critical for anyone who came to God, before salvation was
offered. Those who claim to have confessed Jesus as their
Lord, and yet continue in their past life of habitual sinning
will lack the power to overcome sin. Seeing all categories of
sinners and vain religious leaders who resorted to his
baptism, John the Baptist said to them,
“O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to
flee from the wrath to come? Bring forth therefore
fruits meet for repentance” (Matthew 3:7-8).
And Jesus, at the start of His ministry, called on everyone,
“Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matthew
4:17). It’s not different today; everyone who comes to the
Lord for salvation must first repent from sinning and be
