GRACE, Exploring Its Riches
be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall,
But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew
their strength; They shall mount up with wings
like eagles, They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.”
The spiritual exercise of fasting and (not or) waiting on the
Lord is a viable, reliable and God-given way for the
believer to gain spiritual strength or grace. A study of
Scriptures show that several people and societies used this
spiritual practice to find grace with God, move His hand
favourably and change His heart where judgment had
been determined. There are characters and nations in
Scriptures who waited on the Lord to locate God’s mind
on the issues bothering them.
1. Moses
“Then the LORD said to Moses, “Come up to Me on
the mountain and be there; and I will give you tablets
of stone, and the law and commandments which I
have written, that you may teach them” (Exodus
24:12). Notice the phrase, “and be there”. It depicts
‘waiting’, an exercise Moses had to practice until God gave
him what to use to govern the nation of Israel. It cost him
whole 40 days of waiting before God gave what He had
promised.
