much. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours,
and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain;
and it did not rain on the land for three years and
six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven
gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.”
From this text we can see what is needed for prayer to be
effective and the effect of such prayers:
·Prayer Must Be Fervent: Fervent prayer that will
generate grace must come from the heart; touching the
human heart with a burden and with passion. It must
also reach the heart of God in line with His word or
promise.
·Prayer Must Come from the Righteous: God has
no commitment to respond to the prayers of those
whose hearts are not aligned to His heart or His will.
“For the eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, And His
ears are open to their prayers; But the face of the LORD is
against those who do evil” (I Peter 3:12).
To be righteous is to stand right before God, not for who we
are or what we have done, but for embracing who Christ is
and what He has done on our behalf. As Paul describes it in
2 Corinthians 5:21, “For He made Him who knew no sin to
be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God
in Him.” It is the righteousness of God through Christ
Jesus that grants us audience before the throne of grace.
