Alien Residence Certificate
• What is an Alien Residence Certificate (ARC)? How do I apply for it?
Foreign nationals who have entered Taiwan on resident visas are required to
apply for an Alien Residence Certificate (ARC) in order to legally stay in the
country. You need to apply for the ARC at your local National Immigration
Agency service center within 15 days of arrival in Taiwan. Please note that a
fine will be imposed on those failing to apply for an ARC before the end of the
15 days (fines are: NT$2,000 for less than 10 days after the end of the 15 day
period; NT$4,000 for 11-30 days; NT$6,000 for 31-60 days; NT$8,000 for 61-
90 days; and NT$10,000 for 91 days or more). Your scholarship agency is not
responsible for paying any fines.
A list of local service centers can be found on the Information for Foreigners
website: http://iff.immigration.gov.tw/welcome.htm
• How do I extend my Alien Residence Certificate (ARC)?
You must bring your passport, ARC (within 15 days prior to its expiration),
student ID card, and other necessary documents to your local National
Immigration Agency service center. If your ARC has already expired, you
must leave Taiwan to apply for a new resident visa at an ROC embassy or
representative office. Then, re-apply for a new ARC at your local National
Immigration Agency service center within 15 days after your re-entry to
Taiwan. Please note that a fine will be imposed for overstaying your visa
(NT$2,000 for under 10 days; NT$4,000 for 11-30 days: NT$6,000 for 31-60
days; NT$8,000 for 61-90 days; and NT$10,000 for 91 days or more). Your
scholarship agency is not responsible for paying any fines.
