Certificate in
Maritime Operations
The Certificate in Maritime Operations programme equips
students with entry-level competencies to work in the maritime
industry, and provides a foundation for further education in Marine
Studies.
The programme includes instruction in Navigation, Seamanship,
Environmental Studies and Basic Meteorology and Oceanography.
In preparation to receive the International Maritime Organisation
(IMO) Basic Safety at Sea Certificate, students are taught first-aid,
survival-at-sea skills, fire prevention and fire-fighting skills, and
health and safety requirements.
At the end of the programme, students may benefit from a six-
week period of industrial attachment. Along with the Certificate in
Maritime Operations, successful students will be awarded the IMO
Certified Basic Safety at Sea Certificate.
Graduates from this programme may consider such careers as
Deckhand/General Purpose Hand, Seaman/
Ordinary Seaman, or Navigational Watchman.
