Certificate in
Small Engine Repairs
Small Engine Repairs was once a small field that dealt primarily
with lawn mowers, weed eaters, and chainsaws. Today, the field
has expanded; small engines are highly advanced and require a
great deal of technical knowledge in order to work on them.
ln the Certificate in Small Engine Repairs programme, students
are trained to work on all types of small engines which can be
found in any powered equipment smaller than a car. Students are
taught the safety practices to be observed in small engine
workshops, engine construction and the principles of operations.
Emphasis is also placed on measuring engine performance,
understanding the operations of basic ignition systems and general
preventative maintenance. At the end of the programme, students
may benefit from a six-week period of industrial attachment.
Graduates from this programme may be employed as Small
Engine Repair Technicians in the parts sales and service industries
or as entrepreneurs.
