Diploma in
Marine Diesel Engineering
PREREQUISITES:
SJPI Certificate in Maritime Operations or Grades 1, 2 or 3
passes in CXC English Language, Mathematics and a Science
subject at General Proficiency level.
The Diploma in Marine Diesel Engineering programme is designed
to provide students with the basic knowledge and skills to function
as Marine Diesel Technicians within the marine industry. Such
technicians are needed in order to keep recreational and
commercial fleets operating at full capacity.
The programme focuses on the repair of marine diesel engines
and vessels and students are taught the theory of marine diesel
operation along with the latest repair and diagnostic procedures
available in the industry. The knowledge gained within this
programme can also be utilised when working with heavy duty
vehicles. At the end of the programme, students may benefit from
a six-week period of industrial attachment.
Along with the Diploma in Marine Diesel Engineering,
successful students will be awarded the International Maritime
Operation (IMO) Certified Basic Safety at Sea Certificate.
