HOW BIG IS YOUR EXCUSE?
Hamilton Naki was offered a job as a gardener in the University of Cape
Town. He had come from a very humble background, with little or no
education. This was apartheid South Africa where the educated Black
people had not got a voice, not to mention a Black male with no
education at all. But nothing was going to stop this determined young
man with an amazing self image and esteem! Soon, he got a job as a
laboratory assistant, helping with the meanest of roles in the
laboratory.

What then happened?
Four years after, he rose from an illiterate gardener and assistant to a Principal Surgical
Surgeon, armed with an Honorary Master's degree from the University of Cape Town: a feat one
would have considered almost impossible!
The question is: what have you done with your ample opportunities? Your time?
So many learners today complain about so many things. Some of them say, ''My teacher is the
reason I am not doing well at school!'' You've got to wake up!
You could have a million genuine excuses why you don't feel like reading or taking up that
challenge, but, you must realize that if you fail to dream big, you would spend your entire life
helping others build their dreams. Time is moving fast and waits for no one! So, get up! Move!
Take into consideration that great achievement involves great risk! Embrace change! Express
your enthusiasm! You're not a failure!
Follow the three Rs:
· Respect for self
· Respect for others
· Responsibility for your actions!
Be the best! See you at the top!
