English translation

The synagogue was a regular room that on Shabbat turned into a synagogue.
All the Jewish prisoners came to the synagogue. They came because they
were happy to meet their Jewish friends, they wanted to know what’s new,
and everybody wanted to meet the prison’s rabbi, the Rabbi Arye Levin.
[The] Rabbi Arye Levin was a righteous rabbi who had come to the prison
for twenty years on Shabbat and holidays. Also in rain and snow he always
came to the prison from his house in Nakhla’ot. The rabbi was an old Jew
and it was very hard for him to walk but he did not miss a single Shabbat.
The rabbi would speak with the prisoners, pray with them and send [take]
their regards to their families. After services [prayer] he would walk on foot
too all the families and send them the regards. He would remember every
regard by heart and would receive regards from the families to tell the
prisoners on the following Shabbat.
There are a lot of stories about the righteous rabbi and we want to tell just on
of them here. On [in] one of the Saturdays the rabbi saw one prisoner sitting
on [in] the side very sad. The rabbi asked the prisoner why is he sad and the
prisoner answered that everybody has families outside, that write them and
visit them, and he has no one because his whole family died in the Holocaust.
The rabbi spoke with him a little and comforted him and [in] the next time
when visitors came for [to] the prisoners, the prisoner suddenly heard his
name. The prisoner got up and thought it was a mistake. He walked in the
yard and met a young religious guy. He asked the guy, “Who are you?” the
guy said, “I am the son of [the] Rabbil Arye Levin. Father told us about you
and I want to be your family.” From that day on Rabbi Ayre’s son continued
to visit him and cheer him up.
