Alive and Well

Ten days after they entered the Tham Luang Cave in northern Thailand, where they were trapped when a
flood came without the possibility to communicate with the outside world, the group was located by divers
from the Thai army commando unit escorted by two British divers two kilometers from the entrance of the
cave and about a kilometer deep into the mountain. The sign of life from the teenagers was the signal that the
families had waited for many days outside the cave, moving between despair and hope. Ten days ago, the
twelve teenagers from the soccer team and the assistant coach finished training and went on a field trip in the
area. For an unknown reason, they entered the cave while heavy rain fell outside. What began as a rescue
operation of the Thai army in cooperation with volunteers quickly became an international rescue operation.
In Thailand they decided this morning not to rush - food, water, lighting, long-term supplies, all these were
transferred to the teenagers in the last hours. In Chiang Rai, they are not ruling out the possibility that the
group will stay in the cave for months, even until the end of the monsoon season in September. At the same
time, divers will teach the boys swimming and diving. Either way, many days await them until they meet
their parents, but at least they know that the whole world is caring for them.
